Cordyceps (Cordyceps sinensis) was already a highly valued and almost priceless mushroom in the 15th century, after the yak herders in Tibet observed that their cattle were more efficient and resistant after eating it. The mushroom grows wild in the Tibetan highlands at altitudes of 3,000 to 5,000 meters, but is now also cultivated. Hericium are a small genus of mushrooms and belong to the group of fungi called "Täublingsartige". A particularly popular edible mushroom of this genus is the Hericium erinaceus ("Igelstachelbart"). In traditional Chinese dietetics, the general harmonizing qualities of Hericium are highly valued. The extract contains high amounts of valuable beta-glucans. Pleurotus (Pleurotus ostreatus, Oyster mushroom) is one of the most popular edible mushrooms in the world, along with shiitake and cultivated mushrooms, and is also known as the veal mushroom due to its tender flesh, fine aroma and high protein content. It grows laterally on living and dead hardwood trunks and, unlike many other mushrooms, can be found even in winter, as the fruiting body does not form until after the first frost. The first mention in herbal books is in the 16th century. Pleurotus contains, among other things, the b-1,3/1,6-D-glucan pleuran, ergosterol (a vitamin D2 precursor), and ergothioneine.
