Hericium are a small genus of mushrooms and belong to the group of fungi called "Täublingsartige". A particularly popular edible mushroom of this genus is the Hericium erinaceus ("Igelstachelbart"). In traditional Chinese dietetics, the general harmonizing qualities of Hericium are highly valued. The extract contains high amounts of valuable beta-glucans. Hericium extract also contains vitamin C (Ester-C®) with its multiple properties, especially beneficial in contributing to the normal functioning of the nervous and immune systems, and it also contains niacin (vitamin B3), which contributes to normal mucous membranes. Pleurotus (Pleurotus ostreatus, Oyster mushroom) is one of the most popular edible mushrooms in the world, along with shiitake and cultivated mushrooms, and is also known as the veal mushroom due to its tender flesh, fine aroma and high protein content. It grows laterally on living and dead hardwood trunks and, unlike many other mushrooms, can be found even in winter, as the fruiting body does not form until after the first frost. The first mention in herbal books is in the 16th century. Pleurotus contains, among other things, the b-1,3/1,6-D-glucan pleuran, ergosterol (a vitamin D2 precursor), and ergothioneine. Chromium, as an essential trace element, contributes to the maintenance of normal blood sugar levels and normal metabolism of macronutrients. The need for chromium increases with the amount of carbohydrates consumed or metabolized by the body.
