DR. KOTTAS Vital Mushroom Pleurotus extract contains a high-quality extract from the vital mushroom Pleurotus, vitamins C and D, and chromium.

Vital mushrooms contain a variety of active biological substances and are considered to be multisubstance mixtures. The complex and valuable ingredients are mainly the contained polysaccharides, beta-glucans, triterpenes, polyphenols and bioactive proteins.

Mushroom extract contains, among other things, a higher amount of beta-glucans and polysaccharides compared to mushroom powder. For Pleurotus by DR. KOTTAS we use a special high-quality mushroom extract standardized to 30% polysaccharides and 20% beta-glucans.

Pleurotus (Pleurotus ostreatus, Oyster mushroom) is one of the most popular edible mushrooms in the world, along with shiitake and cultivated mushrooms, and is also known as the veal mushroom due to its tender flesh, fine aroma and high protein content. It grows laterally on living and dead hardwood trunks and, unlike many other mushrooms, can be found even in winter, as the fruiting body does not form until after the first frost. The first mention in herbal books is in the 16th century. Pleurotus contains, among other things, the b-1,3/1,6-D-glucan pleuran, ergosterol (a vitamin D2 precursor), and ergothioneine.

Chromium, as an essential trace element, contributes to the maintenance of normal blood sugar levels and normal metabolism of macronutrients. The need for chromium increases with the amount of carbohydrates consumed or metabolized by the body.

Vitamin C (Calcium-L-ascorbat / Threonat (Ester-C®)) is particularly known to contribute to normal collagen formation for normal cartilage and blood vessel function, normal immune system function, and protection of cells from oxidative stress.

Calcium-L-ascorbat / Threonat (Ester-C®) is pH-neutral, maintains a constant vitamin C level over 24 hours and is characterized by rapid absorption and high bioavailability.

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) belongs to the group of fat-soluble vitamins. There are only a few natural sources of vitamin D in our food. Vitamin D is found in larger quantities in fatty fish such as eel, herring, salmon and tuna. A precursor of vitamin D, ergosterol, is found in morels, porcini, mushrooms, chanterelles and avocados. Under the influence of UV-B rays from sunlight, the human skin itself forms a large part of the cholecalciferol that we need. In the winter months, when the sun is scarce, the skin can only produce a small amount of vitamin D due to the lack of UV-B radiation. In our latitudes, for example, the strength of the sun’s rays is only sufficient for the skin to produce enough vitamin D for about six months of the year. Therefore, during the dark season, special attention must be paid to a balanced diet in order to meet the daily need for vitamin D. The body can benefit from a daily intake. Fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamin D, can only be used by our body if they are also taken together with fat. Vitamin D is essential for many functions in the body. Among other things, it contributes to:

  • normal absorption / utilization of calcium and phosphorus and to a normal calcium level in the blood
